Absolutely love this research, and I wonder if the creation of specialised ‘fight houses’ will mean that films will ultimately be defined more by their action sequences/fight sequences than by the directors or writers? One criticism of Marvel movies is that there seems to be a certain ‘house style’ that can completely dominate the director’s vision — I wonder if these action choreographers could effectively take over as well. If I know a film is going to have action as visceral as Atomic Blonde I would be on board, whoever write it or directed it. Fascinating area of research — I look forward to hearing and reading more.

Thanks so much! That’s a fascinating question and yes, for some of these films, the house style or choreographic team becomes integral to the film as a whole and could dominate in some ways in coming years. We’re particularly interested in franchises, which arguably make this even more noticeable. It’s also interesting to think about celebrity stunt people — like Zoe Bell, who has become an actress and celebrity in her own right.
